How It Adds Up - Gail Oare

I’m not much for math although I appreciate an exquisitely balanced bank account and a comfortable point lead of the home team at half-time. But I cannot fathom the measurement of the universe today or all the zeroes multiplying across expanding space that tally tomorrow’s size. As I sit counting the progress of my little loops in this new doily, stitching my way across the small hours of the day, I think about the one-third mile of thread I will knot together in a predicable lacey orbit before bringing this project to completion. Then I think: If I unravel 716,700 doilies, I will have enough thread to reach the moon.
